ME 7300: Advanced Fluid Dynamics

Course description

This is an advanced course in fluid dynamics for mechanical engineering students. This course emphasizes flows for which the effects of viscosity are important. The lectures introduce new topics and also discuss some of the same topics contained in the course pre-requisites, but from a more classical and theoretical perspective.

The topics to be covered include:
1. Mathematical preliminaries
2. Fluid kinematics
3. Conservation laws
4. Navier-Stokes equations and basic Newtonian flow solutions
5. Vorticity dynamics
6. Asymptotic analysis methods
7. Boundary layer theory
8. Periodic flows
9. Turbulence
