Engineering Night

The Springfield Chapter of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers invites middle school students (grades 6-8) to participate in this event. Students will learn about engineering, participate in hands-on engineering projects and tour the Russ Engineering Center and its labs. This event is free but is limited to the first 50 students that register.

5:00 PM Students check in at the Joshi Research Center
5:15 PM What is Engineering
College staff will talk about the various disciplines of engineering and how students can prepare in school to become future engineers.
5:30 PM What is Manufacturing Engineering?
SME members will explain manufacturing engineering and discuss what they do on the job.
5:45 PM Materials Science demonstration
Learn about metal that remembers it's shape and have a freezing good time with liquid nitrogen.
6:15 PM Pizza party dinner
6:45 PM Engineering design project competition
8:00 PM Students can be picked up at the Joshi Research Center
